Emirates Group
Revenue accounting at airline scale, spanning interline sales, tax computation, and proration.
Company site, emirates.comFour years inside Emirates Group's revenue accounting system, via DXC Technologies, the engineering foundation the rest of this career is built on.
The problem
Airline revenue accounting is unforgiving: interline sales between carriers, tax computation across jurisdictions, proration of multi-leg fares, and passenger and cargo processing, all of it has to reconcile, at the scale of one of the world's largest airlines.
What I built
- New components integrated into the existing revenue accounting system via REST and SOAP APIs, working closely with business teams to nail down requirements before writing code.
- Builds and deployments through Jenkins as part of the team's CI/CD setup.
- Structured logging and production support, debugging and resolving issues without much escalation.
The environment set the standard I still work to: clean code, rigorous code reviews, and structured testing.
Stack
React, React Native, Redux, Node.js, SQL, REST, SOAP, Big Data (Hadoop), Jenkins, Cypress.
Impact
Multiple Najm Awards for delivery quality, 2nd place in the Emirates Big Data Hackathon (Hadoop, 2017), and a production-support record of resolving issues at the source rather than escalating them.
